Last notes for December 2014

Chers parents,

It is the last day of school tomorrow before the holidays and New Year!  It is a regular day.  Students will be bringing home some crafts tomorrow.  They will also be getting library books today. Please ensure that they are taken care of—it is great to read over the break!  We have been working hard and are ready for les vacances.  Thank you for all the great support.  We are looking forward to what we will be doing in January.  Stay tuned for a date on our Kindergarten Winter Assembly.  We will also be starting homework sheets.  I wish you all the best over the holidays and hope that you have a wonderful time with family.  Meilleurs voeux!

Joyeux Noёl et Bonne année!  I hope that you all have wonderful holidays and a great time with family.  I am so grateful for all the lovely and thoughtful gifts.  Your generosity was very heart-warming.  Please check your child’s backpack for a little Christmas stowaway.  I will be sending posting some pictures soon and I will send a dropbox link for a video in an e-mail.  Meilleurs voeux pour 2015!
Mme Jennifer Wallace
*I was unable to get this working over the holidays but will try to get  this link working soon.

Correction & Introduction!

The Book and a Bagel is Thursday December 4th at 7:50 am.  Sorry for any confusion.  I had the wrong date on the calendar.

I would like to introduce Mme Sorina Beaven.  Sorina has been at our school for three years now.  She is an educational assistant in our class everyday from 10:50 am until dismissal time.  I have worked with her in the past and have benefited greatly from her expertise and friendship.  She was a teacher in Romania and she is fluent in French.

If you get a chance please say hello and introduce yourself to Mme Beaven!

December Newsletter

Chers parents,

It is hard to believe it is already December!

Thank you to you all for making a point to come to the activity conferences.  The children were so proud to have you there and to share with you what we have been learning.  It was wonderful to see such a great turn-out.  It is encouraging to know that my students have such good support at home.

We have been working on our Pow-Wow poster.  We have been learning about Canada and First Nations’ culture.  Today we started our circle booklets and the kids came up with such great examples of circles in nature: trees (rings in the trunks), flowers (centers), sun, moon, the Earth, planets, fruits and the life cycle of grass.  We will hopefully be able to do a page each day in our booklets.

In math we will continue to work in our math workbooks and in math centers as well.

For your child’s special day he or she is welcome to bring an object, photo or drawing from a family tradition you might have.  It can be a tradition around a special holiday but it does not have to be.

I need to remind everyone to ensure that children are dressed appropriately for the weather.   Although there will be indoor recesses when it is called for, we want to ensure that students are prepared to go outside.  Please spend time at home teaching your child how to zip his or her coat, ski pants and put on boots and mittens.  While it may be quick to do your child’s outdoor clothing for them at home, their independence is crucial at school.  Fostering independence at home reaps great benefits!  I have recess supervision and our EA is only available after recess.  We have many students.  I assist the children as much as possible but teaching them to do this is a great help for everyone and they become quite proud of their skills.  Thanks for your help with this!

Please remember Thursdays is our day to exchange.  The students enjoy getting new books.

MERCI!

Activity conference reminder

Hello!  I am looking forward to meeting with you and your child tomorrow afternoon/evening.  Please remember that this is an activity conference.   It is an opportunity for you to walk through some centers: alphabet, math, friends’ corner, and poster to see what your child is able to do.  You will also have the opportunity to look through your child’s work.  We can briefly discuss as you look through his or her work but this will not be an interview time.  Please be mindful of this as we will have other parents and children at the same time and time is limited; the whole session is a half hour but each center will be about 5-7 minutes.  The students are often excited to share what they know with you.

There is also a Scholastic book fair in the library.  You can come with your child to select and purchase some books if you so choose before or after your conference time.

MERCI!

A SHORT WALK--note correction and update!

In addition to the trip to the WDM on the 14th we will be taking a short walk to McQuarries Tea Emporium on *Nov. 7th to look at the Remembrance Day window display (this is a new date and time at 9:30am).  Thank you to Sherrill and Crystal who are able to accompany us on short notice.  There is some neat history that goes with it and the owners are wonderfully accommodating in sharing the stories with us.  It is a short walk and I will need only one or two other adults to accompany me.
I have one parent volunteer for the 14th.  Let me know if you are able to come.

Merci!

Important dates to add to the calendar!

My apologies I missed a couple of dates for the calendar.  Please add them to your copies.

Thurs. Nov. 27th  at 4pm into the evening we will have activity conferences.  In kindergarten we do not have report cards until March. This gives students time to mature and adjust  to school before formal reporting. Activity conferences are longer in length and are an opportunity for parents to see their children in action.  We will have four groups of children with their parents going through four different activities where your children will be showing you what they know.  There will be a math center, an alphabet center, a poster center and the coin d'amis.  You will have a clipboard sheet where you can take notes and add comments. I will be circulating to answer questions but please remember that this is not an interview time.

Nov. 28th  there will be no school for students.

We will also be walking across the street to visit McQuarries' Tea Emporium to see the Remembrance Day window display.
Nov. 14th is our trip to the WDM.

Let me know if you have any concerns or questions!
Thank you
Mme Jennifer Wallace

November Newsletter

Chers parents,
(My apologies for not getting out a paper copy today.  The photocopier stopped working after the calendars were printed.)

We are looking forward to a fun and safe Halloween.  Students can come in their Halloween costumes on Friday.  We will have un défilé--a parade in the school.  We will enjoy some Halloween songs and a little treat.  We have been studying a little about ourselves and did a, “Des os, il en faut!” “We need bones!” song.  We made some pasta skeletons that will be going home today.  I am sending a toothbrush and note from Saskatoon Health region as well, to remind kids to take care of those bones after Halloween treats!   Today is library exchange day so new library books will be going home in your child’s back pack.  Please remember Thursdays is our day to exchange.  The students enjoy getting new books.

We have also been working on our poster Notre classe.  Our next poster will be a Pow Wow poster.  We will be learning and sharing about Canada and the cultures that make up our country.  For your child’s sharing day your child can either bring something that is a souvenir or photo of a trip in Canada or something from your child’s heritage or cultural background.  We are looking forward to all the learning we will do on this.  Wednesday, November 5th there will be an international/ multi-cultural

potluck for supper at the school.

We have done some Early Years Evaluation assessments and will continue to finish those.  We are also concentrating on alphabet recognition.  A link on the blog called Literacy Center is a great resource for learning the alphabet in French. http://lamagiedelamaternelle2.blogspot.ca

We will be going to the WDM for a program entitled “Noel d’autrefois” “A Christmas Long Ago” on November 14th.  We are needing 4 parent volunteers.  Please let me know if you are able to join us.

Thank you for your support and looking forward to November!  Please check the calendar!
