News and Notes in April

Reminder that tomorrow April 23rd is Blast from the Past!  The kids can dress up from a time gone by….another decade or even century!  Also please remember that I will need volunteers April 27th and April 28th.  We will be making bannock on the Monday and we will be going to a film on Tuesday.

Le vendredi 17 avril, 2015

Chers parents,
We had a great week back! We started the week with a visit from two local artists, Mr. and Mrs. Rivard.  They shared with us some knowledge about light, shadows and colour (la lumière, les ombres et la couleur) as we started our fruit study sketches on Monday.  On Tuesday we then did our still life, nature morte, paintings of a bowl of fruit.  The children did beautiful work.  The paintings and sketches are on display in the LRC glass display case.  Next week we will make our own personal fake pizzas.  We learned a little about how to divide pizzas into even numbers to share with others.  We will include shapes when we make our toppings.

We are looking forward to some special days in the weeks to come.  Next week April 23rd is Blast to the Past.  Children can dress up from a decade or century that has gone by.  This is always optional but great fun to get into the spirit of the day.  Monday, April 27th I will be baking bannock with the students.  If you are able to volunteer please let me know.  I can use one or two helpers for this undertaking.  On Tuesday April 28th we will also need volunteers to walk with us and view Le coq de St-Victor at the Broadway Theatre for the Cinergie Festival.  I will need two additional adults.

On May 8th we will be having our Mother’s Day Tea.  If a parent cannot attend please send someone in your place for that morning.  It will be about 45 minutes in the LRC beginning at about 9am.

We are done our alphabet homework booklets so we will another break from homework.  Thank you for the great participation.  These booklets can now remain at home.  We are enjoying the warmer weather greatly!  Please ensure that your child still has outdoor shoes (runnners) and indoor shoes as this helps keep our school clean.

Merci pour votre soutien!

April Newsletter

Joyeux avril!  Time has been going quickly and we are into a new season: le printemps.  We will continue our unit on food, la nourriture but we will also add a focus of spring.  For your child’s special day he or she can do a picture or bring something that represents spring or a favourite spring activity.  I mentioned at interviews that we will also have some special days in which parents will be invited.

May 8th our class will be hosting a Mother’s Day Tea at 9:00 am in the school LRC.  If a parent is unable to attend please send someone to be there for your child.  I have had grandmas, dads and aunties… attend!  It is a very special occasion and the children are always very proud to share with you.

In June we will have a Dads' day.  This will be from 8:50am -10:30 am in the GYM.  The date will be announced.  (It will be mid to late June when the school is booked to go to the swimming pool.)  I will let you know as soon as possible.  Again if a parent is unable to attend please have someone come to participate with your child.  This will be an active time which will involve running and lots of movement; please dress for being active.  Dates for field trips will also be announced as soon as possible.

We are enjoying our food unit very much.  Thank you for the great participation in the fruit salad, the veggie soup and the sharing snack.  We will be making a few more items as a class where supplies will be provided already.  We also enjoyed our restaurant simulation with our care partner class.

I hope everyone is enjoying the home reading books.  Click the home reading link on the blog from March 12th to get to the links for the books.

Joyeux Printemps!

Les livres chez nous ~Home reading books

The students will be taking home books in their dossiers on today. They will be due back--every Thursday--the same day as library exchange day. Each book has a number and a title. You can check the book number and title with the subsequent blog posts and read along. We have two books per blog post. (Please note the timing on the books are 1 minute in length so it goes by quickly. It is okay to pause or re-visit the same recording.) This is an opportunity to read-along in French and hear and see the correct pronunciation. We will also be discussing, asking questions and pre-viewing some of the books in class. I hope that you and your child enjoy! Below are links to the audio for following along with the home reading books. If you click on the links it will direct you to the books. The characters require Flash player to be able to play them. I do not believe they can be viewed on iPods or iPhones. (I am not sure about tablets.)

New homework!

Chers parents,

We have been having a great week!  The 100 days celebration was wonderful.  Thank you for the great participation for the 100 days project.  We also made some necklaces out of 100 fruit loops by counting in tens with our care partners.  We did 100 exercises.  We did some estimating in comparing what snack in a baggie would weigh the most.  We also imagined what we would do with 100 dollars.  The kids came up with some fun ideas.  We will be moving into a new unit on nutrition and food soon.  Please keep posted with your notes and the blog.  We will be making and tasting some great foods together.

I will also be sending home alphabet songbooks.  Your child will be singing the song of the day to you and will then work on that letter at home and colour the new words.  Each day the booklets need to come back to school.  We will also start home reading books that will go home next week.

Merci!

Important dates!

Chers parents,

Tomorrow is beach day!  Even though it is cold outside we can imagine we are somewhere warm!  Students may come with beach wear (no bathings suits please): sun hats, sunglasses….under their winter gear.

Friday is our concert at 9am.  Please be on time!  We will be performing on risers in the gym so it is important that all students arrive on time so that we can be ready.  We are looking forward to the performance very much.

We will be handing out Valentine cards after the performance before snack time.  We will not be taking out any cards before the performance.  There will be plenty of excitement that day.

The first day back from the break, Monday February 23rd we will be celebrating 100 days of school.  Please send your child’s 100 day project as well as a 100 days snack in a baggie (cheerios, pretzels, smarties…) –no nuts please.  We will be sharing a 100 day snack.

We hope that you will be able to attend our assembly!  Have a great break!

Mme Wallace
