Joyeux Noel et Bonne Annee

Thank you all for the lovely thoughtful and generous gifts. Mrs. Lamb-Auckland and I were very touched. We had a fun day to end the year and send us into the holidays. We enjoyed a wonderful musical concert/assembly and then shared in some games with Mme McCrea's class. We ended with phys. ed. I will send a new calendar on the 6th and newsletter. Our theme will be winter and winter activities. We will also start a new poster. Thank you again for a great send off for the holidays. I hope that you all enjoy good health and a wonderful time with family and friends over the break and in the new year. See you in 2014!

Les dix jours de Noel

This is our Christmas booklet that we have been working on entitled "Les dix jours de Noël" to the tune of "The 12 Days of Christmas." The time on the Voki characters only allow for one minute and our booklet/song takes three minutes and thirty seconds. This character sings the end of our booklet starting from "le dixième jour de Noël." The voices are your children, Mme Wallace and Mme Lamb-Auckland Enjoy!

WDM

Thank you Suzanne, Shannon and Sarah for helping with our trip to the Western Development Museum.  We had a wonderful visit and enjoyed the Christmas Long Ago program.  As one little girl kept saying, "That is old fashioned!"  We certainly enjoyed some old fashioned fun!

New MIMI glog

We are well into the month of December and we are looking forward to "A Christmas Long Ago" program at the WDM next week.  We have worked with clay to do some ornaments: les ornements en argile.  We are also doing a countdown calendar that represents either Santa or a snowman:  Le pere Noel ou les bonhommes de neige.  We are working on booklets as well that has is a variation of a familiar song called: "Les dix jours de Noel."  So far we have had some wonderful sharing with the topic: Une tradition de ma famille.  There are not many days left until the holidays.

We are into cold weather as well as weakened immune systems.  Please ensure that your household is well rested and well dressed so that we can all enjoy the last days we have of 2013.  MERCI!

Please note: Beside this post under MIMI is the new glog poster La salle de classe.   Follow the link. It has audio to go with the poster and words.

End of November update

Chers parents,

Thank you for coming to our activity conferences.  We had 100% participation.  MERCI!  It was wonderful seeing you all interacting with your children.  They were all very proud to show you what they know.

We are finishing our O’ Canada booklets today and we will begin some Christmas themed activities in December.  We have finished adding words to our MIMI poster.  I have posted the words here below. *I did not get them sent home in the dossiers today.*

Please remember there is no school tomorrow for students, as there are conferences and professional planning time for teachers.

Recently you received an email asking for your consent to share your contact information with our Home and School Association; the form is a pdf.  This enables the association to inform you of events and ask for volunteers.  This is separate from school consent forms.  If you can send that in as soon as possible this would be a great help.  I would like to say thanks to our room parent Suzanne for volunteering for this position.

I will also be sending home a calendar for December.  For our sharing time I will send home a paper.  This will be about our favourite family tradition.  “Ma tradition de famille préférée.”

I am looking forward to these sharing times.

Merci!

Mme Jennifer Wallace

It is wonderful to be a part of this community. I encourage parents and students to find out what this community has to offer and get involved.  Or just talk a walk...Allez-y pour une promenade!

A short update:
Currently the students and I are doing quite a lot of testing for Early Years Evaluation.  We are working on our O' Canada booklets in class.  We are finished our first MIMI poster and have begun a new poster today.

Remembrance Day ~ Le Jour de Souvenir / L'armistice

Thank you to the moms who joined us on the walk to McQuarries.  It was a wonderful visit with John and Darcy.  John shared with us part of his own story about two soldiers.   His uncle and his wife's uncle both fought in opposing forces in the Second World War.  Had they lived to see today they would be sharing in a meal around the same table.  They also shared some war memorabilia from Saskatoon and Dakota Whitecap First Nation.   It was a great learning experience.

We also have been reading books to help us learn and remember:

In Flander Fields ( The poem, about the poem and John McCrae)

Pourquoi?  by Nikolai Popov

Grandpa Green by Lane Smith

We have been enjoying our presentations on favourite places in Canada and learning more about where we live.  Our big book of our Hymne National-- O Canada! is almost complete and the student will begin illustrating their own booklets of the anthem.
